(EWTN UK) Another red-carpet moment captured the hearts of Americans across the country last night (Sept. 14) during the Emmy Awards, thanks to a passionate acceptance speech by actor Tom Pelphrey after taking home his first award for his role in HBO’s Task, a series about an FBI task force in the working-class suburbs of Philadelphia.
The 44-year-old actor, who was raised Catholic and frequently shares his faith on social media, began his speech by giving glory to God:
“I thank God for my life and my sobriety. I thank my family and my friends for all your love and support all these years — from Emmys to black-box theaters and everything in between.”
He then turned his focus toward his growing family:
“My love, my best friend, my partner, the very pregnant Kaley Cuoco: I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life! Matilda, Daddy loves you! Baby girl in that belly, Daddy loves you! Thank you, and God bless!”

Pelphrey and Cuoco, who got engaged in 2024, announced earlier this year that they are expecting their second child together, another daughter to join big sister Matilda. Cuoco called the news a “dream come true” on Instagram, sharing:
“This second-time-around journey has been a little windier in many ways, but wow, we are so grateful for this moment! Little sissy on the way! @tommypelphrey girl dad for life.”

Pelphrey, who won “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” for portraying a desperate single father, has also recently lent his talent to faith-based projects. Earlier this year, he voiced the role of Jesus in an audio drama project hosted by Catholic actress Patricia Heaton.
Reflecting on the role with People magazine, the New Jersey native recalled his upbringing and fondly remembered reading the Bible and receiving the sacraments in his home parish:
“I found a kind of solace in that,” Pelphrey said. “Reading that Bible as a young boy was the beginning of how I felt like I was developing a personal relationship with God.”
Still, portraying Jesus in an audio production felt daunting:
“I was intimidated in a way that I don’t often get with work. I was like, ‘Wow, I would love to do that!’ And then the next thought was, ‘Oh no, I can’t do that,’” he said with a laugh.
Ultimately, prayer led him to accept the role, explaining simply: “I just want to be of service.”
