The National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is intended to bring the reality of abortion to participants in hopes of driving a higher level of commitment and activism.
With 240 observances nationwide this year, the largest ever, organizers are on track with that goal.
Reports from across the country ranged from small gatherings to some with hundreds in attendance.
Countless number of women who have experienced abortions attended services nationwide.
John Jansen, Pro-Life Action League project coordinator, received a letter from one woman who had special reason for wishing to take part.
“I would like to attend this special service in remembrance of the valuable lives of the unborn babies,” she wrote to Jansen’s office. “I had an abortion 30 years ago and it will be healing for me to be there honoring the life of my unborn child and other precious lives that didn’t get a chance to live.”
Jansen said that a gathering in Philadelphia chose to mark the day at the side of a busy street, displaying signs explaining why they were gathered and with post abortion help information. The group prayed and released balloons.
Jansen previously noted that we will not progress culturally without dealing with what is spiritually broken, thus recognizing the humanity of the unborn is essential.
“They deserve to be mourned for,” Jansen said. “If we don’t mourn for them, we don’t remember them.”

The National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is a combined project of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and the Pro-Life Action League. The first annual National Day of Remembrance was held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, with over 100 memorial services taking place at locations all over the country, including 38 gravesites of aborted children. The event has grown each year since.
The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) posted on social media of the 2026 day memorializing lives lost to abortion, “Today on the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, Americans visit the burial places of pre-born victims of abortion and other memorial sites dedicated to them across the nation.”
“We hold all these children in our hearts and pledge to continue our work to ensure all babies and mothers receive life affirming care,” the ACPeds post said. “Every child deserves a life free of violence and the chance for a peaceful childhood.”
The annual remembrance event challenges apathy toward the millions of children aborted in the U.S. each year through the reality of gravesites, testimonies, descriptions of abortion and at some events, photos of aborted children.
Tens of thousands of aborted children have been given a proper burial at some of the gravesites where the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children takes place.

There are some 60 known burial sites which are part of the 232 locations where remembrance services took place in 2025, with a total of 1,050 sites on the official map. There are 990 designated memorial sites set aside with memory stones where groups gather for the annual event and people can visit anytime to pray. Jansen said that new memorial sites are being added all the time.
Pro-life advocates are encouraged to visit these and other memorial sites as a regular part of their pro-life witness. Telling the stories of these children and sharing associated images are powerful tools to awaken the collective conscience of a culture that has accepting death by abortion.
Organizers thanked all who participated in this year’s National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Abortion.
