The Pregnancy Network was established in in North Carolina in 1985 by three local businessmen as the Greensboro Pregnancy Care Center. With the number of women seeking assistance and funds growing steadily, the center expanded in 2021 to a second facility in Winston-Salem and re-branded as The Pregnancy Network.

The Pregnancy Network seeks to “empower women to face their unplanned pregnancies without fear,” according to the organization’s website.

In 2015, a strategic plan to expand medical services and reach more women led to accelerated, exponential growth, all needed in an area with three abortion centers.

“We’ve seen what God can do when we set a vision, develop a strategy, and allow others to coach us throughout the process,” said Hope Earwood, who began coming to The Pregnancy Network as a volunteer in 2017. Last December, she became Executive Director.

A 3-Phase Strategic Plan to go mobile, move to a larger location, and become a fully operational medical clinic, began in 2014.

A mobile ultrasound van began circulating to area parking lots in 2016, expanding the center’s reach to more young women. The medical unit has RNs to provide pregnancy tests, limited OB ultrasounds, and STD/STI testing.

A volunteer medical board, made up of local doctors board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, oversees ultrasounds at The Pregnancy Network.

In 2017, the 3-point plan was completed by moving to a strategically located larger building in Greensboro.

Spanish services were added in 2022. Also launched in 2022 was The Accelerator Program, an offer of guidance and assistance by The Pregnancy Network to other pregnancy centers throughout the country.

Often, new or existing pregnancy centers seek ways to reach and assist more women. The Accelerator Program exists to maximize the potential of pregnancy centers through customized coaching to strengthen center leaders in both their day-to-day effectiveness and their long-term strategic planning.

“Sometimes it’s a new center just opening,” said Earwood. “Other times it’s a center that’s been around for a while that’s looking for new ideas for fundraising, getting volunteers, and adding different services.”

In 2024, following Hurricane Helene's destructive impact on much of western North Carolina, The Pregnancy Network donated its first mobile unit to a pregnancy resource center that had been affected, along with cases of diapers and baby clothes to Mountain Area Pregnancy Services centers that were impacted by the storm.

Also in 2024, telemedicine was launched, allowing for scheduled calls with a licensed registered nurse for guidance, pregnancy options information, and resources.

Case management was added that year, and lactation care added earlier this year to connect women with resources to meet their needs (employment, housing, transportation etc.).

Also, this year, the Pregnancy Network launched a 24/7 nurse chat feature.

The Pregnancy Network has a podcast called, The Empowered Advocate, which covers various aspect of life advocacy.

The center has seen more young women seeking abortion pills in the past few years. Encouraging the woman to come in for a discussion of the facts around the abortion pills has resulted in several baby saves.

“We’ve had a few that came in abortion determined but when they saw their ultrasound, they said, ‘That’s my baby!’ and changed their mind,” said Kacey Minor, Communications director.

The Pregnancy Network's walk for life

The center utilizes a multi-step approach they call the Success Sequence, where they guide women from being undecided about the plans for their pregnancy to being empowered not only to choose life but to make choices that lead to optimal life outcomes physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

An abortion recovery support group is also offered to area women.

The Pregnancy Network’s vision for 2027 includes expanding holistic wrap-around care by adding clinical mental health, a 12-month cohort providing pregnancy center leaders with ongoing coaching, practical training, and two in-person workshops to strengthen their ministries.
